2023 Active Members Announced!

GCC celebrates second round of Active Membership, encouraging tangible climate action in the visual arts
9 Apr 2024

April 9th 2024 - Today, Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC) announces the second wave of its members who have achieved “Active” status. The initiative celebrates the organisations and individuals who have taken effective steps towards environmental responsibility, starting with three key actions:

  1. Completing a CO2e report or audit.

  2. Establishing and maintaining a Green Team.

  3. Publishing an Environmental Responsibility Statement.

In this second cohort of Active Membership, an incredible 125 members demonstrated that they or their organisation has implemented environmental sustainability best practice. There was a 50% increase in successful applications, and over 85% of last year’s Active members renewed their status.

GCC congratulates all of this year’s Active members on this accomplishment, and particularly acknowledges the significance of the work done by the many small organisations, artists and individual professionals that have made transformational changes.

As part of the initiative, GCC has provided qualifying members with a badge, to recognise the action that they have taken, and are likewise celebrated across the GCC website member listings. The year-stamped badge is for use across member websites, social media and email footers. This badge acknowledges positive action taken but is not a certification of sustainability.

Active Members also benefit from discounts with carefully selected partners , including The Art Newspaper, Rokbox, and SpongyBags. These organisations offer products and services in line with principles of sustainability and/or help members fulfil their environmental responsibility commitments.

Active Membership is a rolling initiative and members are welcome to submit at any point throughout the year. More information on how to do so can be found here.
