Welcome to GCC Taiwan, an International Volunteer Chapter of Gallery Climate Coalition founded in September 2022, operating until Autumn 2024.
Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC) is an international community of arts organisations working to reduce our sector’s environmental impacts.
GCC’s primary goal is to facilitate a reduction of the sector’s CO2e emissions by a minimum of 50% by 2030, as well as promoting zero waste.
GCC has created a carbon calculator specifically tailored to the art industry. This provides users with the means to determine and monitor their carbon footprint, and is available for use by GCC members. We encourage all members to share their results to bring about greater change.
GCC Taiwan has been responsible for developing localised content and resources in line with GCC’s guidelines, hosting events, and engaging with our immediate networks on environmental issues within Taiwan’s arts sector. The aim is to collectively find sustainable solutions that can support Taiwan’s arts organisations and professionals to save energy, reduce emissions and minimise waste.
GCC Taiwan was founded by ARTrigin, a gallery that emphasises sustainable arts, led by director Sandy Hsiao and team members Linda Chen and Jay Mei. The initiative grew out of a series of collaborative discussions and projects focused on sustainability. With a shared passion for environmental consciousness and contemporary art, the team combined their expertise and commitment to establish a dedicated chapter in Taiwan. Their efforts aim to inspire and engage the local art community, creating a strong network of individuals dedicated to promoting sustainability within the art world.
The Chapter is self-organised and self-motivated whilst remaining closely aligned with GCC’s core targets and commitments. This platform is about being less competitive and more collaborative, in response to the urgent need to take climate action in the arts sector. -
