New GCC Trustee Appointed: Michel Driessen

8 Dec 2025

We are delighted to welcome Michel Driessen to the Board of Trustees of the Gallery Climate Coalition. Michel brings a rare combination of financial expertise, cultural leadership, and deep commitment to sustainability, making him an invaluable addition to GCC at a pivotal moment in our development.

Michel is a Professor in the Practice of Finance and Director of the M&A Research Centre at Bayes Business School, where his work focuses on the dynamics of corporate and private equity transactions and value creation, sustainability, and strategic transformation. Alongside his academic role, he serves as Chair of a deal advisory company, which serves private capital clients in navigating complex transactions in a rapidly changing global landscape. His blend of strategic insight and real-world commercial experience brings a new dimension to GCC’s governance and long-term planning.

Michel also has an impressive track record within the arts and cultural sector. He is a Trustee of Turner Contemporary in Margate and previously served as a Senior Partner in the Strategy and Transactions Group at EY UKI. There, he chaired the Art Committee, worked closely with Tate, and sat on the Corporate Advisory Board of the V&A. His professional life has consistently bridged arts, business, and social impact - a combination perfectly aligned with GCC’s mission to support a sustainable and economically resilient visual arts ecosystem.

In February 2026, Michel will publish his new book, 'Green Gold: How Sustainability Creates Deal Value', with Wiley. The book explores how environmental responsibility not only reduces risk but also unlocks strategic advantage and long-term financial value - a perspective increasingly relevant to the cultural sector. Michel’s research and writing underscore the role that sustainability can play in shaping the financial future of creative institutions, galleries, funders, and cultural enterprises. His expertise in translating sustainability into practical financial strategy and outcomes will be a significant asset to GCC as we continue to support the sector in aligning environmental action with organisational resilience.

Commenting on his appointment, Michel said:

“I am delighted to be joining the GCC as a trustee. As someone who is passionate about both the arts and addressing the impacts of the climate crisis, being part of an initiative that brings international arts organisations together feels especially urgent. It is vital that the cultural sector leads by example, reduces its own footprint, and uses its unique influence to drive climate awareness and action across global audiences.”

Michel joins GCC at a time when our work is expanding internationally and when arts organisations are increasingly seeking practical, credible pathways to reduce their environmental impact. His combination of strategic, financial, and cultural experience will strengthen our ability to support the sector, deepen our research, and refine our long-term organisational strategy.

We are excited to benefit from Michel’s leadership, insight, and energy. Please join us in welcoming him to the GCC community as we continue to build a fairer, more sustainable future for the visual arts.
