Announcing GCC at Frieze London!

GCC is excited to announce the charity’s participation in the return of Frieze London 2021.

Located in booth D1, GCC will present industry-specific tools and resources and share best practice guidelines, with the aim to engage exhibitors and visitors about sector-specific climate issues and carbon reduction goals. GCC’s ultimate goal is to inspire and prompt action leading to decarbonisation.

An artwork,  Lignin duress (d), 2014 by Wolfgang Tillmans, depicting the aftermath of a freak hurricane in Germany, will be exhibited in the booth. Generously gifted by Wolfgang Tillmans and Maureen Paley, the work will be available for sale with all proceeds going to support the work of GCC.

Informal roundtable discussions on climate issues will be programmed each day, with visitors encouraged to stop by to engage in conversation and ask questions relating to the topic and our resources guidelines. The programme is set to include demonstrations of GCC’s free-to-use Carbon Calculator, discussions on sustainable shipping, travel and packaging among others. It will also include daily ‘guest hosts’ from organisations and businesses doing vital work at the intersection of culture and sustainability. A programme of guest contributors will be announced shortly.

Our core goal remains a commitment to the Paris agreement, facilitating a reduction of the sector’s carbon emissions by at least 50% by 2030. GCC is thrilled to be joining an international community of galleries at the fair to further this mission.

GCC is aiming for zero waste and low impact participation at Frieze. We will track, analyse and publish all our CO2e emissions associated with the fair as part of a case study on sustainable practices at art fairs. This will be developed into a detailed resource on our website.

GCC would like to thank Frieze for their generous support.
