GCC is pleased to announce the formation of GCC Taiwan, its first volunteer group in Asia. The new chapter of the international charity will develop a dedicated platform of environmental information and resources for Taiwan-based art organisations and professionals.

GCC Taiwan grew out of several months of discussions, culminating in an in-person event hosted by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council and Taipei International Convention Center. The event included presentations from Heath Lowndes, Managing Director of GCC and Lena Chang, Project Manager for Greenpeace Taiwan. This presentation received an enthusiastic response from the Taiwanese art community which led to a group of volunteers offering to establish a GCC volunteer team in the city. This has brought together the expertise and energies of different personalities involved in various aspects of art production.

The founding committee of GCC Taiwan will work closely with galleries, institutions, artistsand art businesses, as well as environmental advisors to pool knowledge and resources and develop region-specific research on a wide range of topics, from energy providers and art storage, to shipping best practices and packaging alternatives.

Simultaneously, the group will promote GCC's Carbon Calculator amongst the region's members. This tool is specifically tailored to the art industry and provides users with the means to determine and monitor their carbon footprint, completely free of charge: a vital first step towards meeting reduction targets. Although environmental problems are global, possible solutions are often linked to local resources, which can only be researched and developed by a team embedded within the region. This is why GCC operates at both local and global levels to implement GCC's key principles of collaboration and action, which in turn lead to significant systemic change. GCC Taiwan is the fifth dedicated volunteer group under the GCC umbrella, following the earlier launches of teams in Berlin, London, Italy & LA.

GCC is excited to be extending our international network, and we invite other groups to form in line with the International Volunteer Team guidelines.
