MEMBERS AREA

  • Welcome to GCC Berlin, an International Volunteer Chapter of Gallery Climate Coalition founded in April 2021, operating until Autumn 2024.

Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC) is an international community of arts organisations working to reduce our sector’s environmental impacts.

GCC’s primary goal is to facilitate a reduction of the sector’s CO2e emissions by a minimum of 50% by 2030, as well as promoting zero waste.

GCC has created a carbon calculator specifically tailored to the art industry. This provides users with the means to determine and monitor their carbon footprint, and is available for use by GCC members. We encourage all members to share their results to bring about greater change.

GCC Berlin has been responsible for developing localised content and resources in line with GCC’s guidelines, hosting events, and engaging with our immediate networks on environmental issues within Germany’s arts sector. The aim is to collectively find sustainable solutions that could support Germany’s arts organisations and professionals to save energy, reduce emissions and minimise waste.

GCC Berlin developed from a private initiative by a group of colleagues and art practitioners in the city. It began gathering in early 2021 as well as working in close collaboration with the London initiators of GCC. This has brought together the expertise and will of different personalities involved in various aspects of art production—including gallery owners, conservators, producers, curators, studio managers, transporters and art fair producers.

One of the main aims of GCC Berlin was to develop a system of collaboration, and set new standards of cooperation for more sustainable production and logistic procedures in the art industry.

The Chapter is self-organised and self-motivated whilst remaining closely aligned with GCC’s core targets and commitments. This platform is about being less competitive and more collaborative, in response to the urgent need to take climate action in the arts sector.
