- By analysing Carbon Reports produced by GCC’s Carbon Calculator, it’s clear that air travel takes up a large proportion of most galleries and art businesses' carbon footprints. With so few viable alternatives for long distance air travel, the focus has to be on reducing the number of flights taken annually. Only the most crucial and worthwhile journeys should be made.

Travel Around LondonThis collated information can & should be shared amongst colleagues and collectors who may be travelling internally within the UK, especially in the lead up to Frieze London/ London Gallery Weekend etc.
Take the tube
Whilst transport is responsible for more than a quarter of London’s carbon emissions, London has one of the most mature low-carbon transport systems in Europe. In 2018/19, the average normalised carbon emissions from the London Underground were 44 gCO2e per passenger km. London’s Underground system is intensively used, enabling 3-4 million efficient and fast journeys around the capital every day. If all these trips were made by car, the additional 2.5 million more cars on the roads everyday would increase congestion and add 1. 3 million tonnes to London’s annual Carbon Dioxide (CO 2) emissions
All contactless tube journeys between zones 2 and 6 cost the same as a bus fare on weekdays before 6:30am, between 9:30am and 3:59pm, and after 7pm. Travel at other times, and through zone 1, is just 90p extra per trip.
Bus
London’s entire 9,000-strong core bus fleet now meets or exceeds the cleanest Euro VI emissions standards, the same strict standards that apply in the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ)
Book an Electric Taxi
London now has over 3,570 ZEC (Zero Emission Capable) taxis on the roads. Many of these can be booked ahead of time, online or via an app.
Sherbert London - download the app for easier booking
Green Tomato Cars - also available on the app store
Electric London Taxi - needs 12 hours notice for bookings

International Travel UK - US
Atmosfair, a German non-profit organisation that works to mitigate CO2 production, has produced a Flight Emissions Calculator that allows users to compare the carbon emissions between different airlines and flight routes. *Note that Atmosfair uses a different methodology to the GCC carbon calculator and will not always give the same carbon numbers as GCC's online tool.
If you do have to fly, we suggest flying Economy, and donating to a Strategic Climate Fund on booking. GCC doesn't generally support carbon offsetting as it is difficult to verify the effectiveness of any of these schemes; we rarely know what carbon calculations have been used, or what untested assumptions might lie behind any claims.
